DAY TWENTY:

Last day of service week was certainly a sad day for me! We had class this morning, which focused on what made us so lucky and so fortunate and how we can use that luck (our time and talents) to better serve others. AND... because the lesson was entitled Lucky Charms, we each got a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal... AMERICAN FOOD!!! After class, it was a cram session to try to finish my homework before we left for the township....always the procrastinator (of course Erin was done like two days ago!).  Today, was field day in the townships!! We first went to go visit our families' homes one last time and invite them to come out to the community center for our fun activities! At Ms. Cheryl's house, we all just talked about our weeks and how much we were going to miss her family. Then Duncan showed me his hobby: he has a tree house type structure in the back of his house where he breeds pigeons... yes pigeons! He caught a few when he was little and put little tags on their feet and now he breeds them and...wait for it...trains them!!! He can literally go up to the little house, grab one, take it kilometers away, and it will fly back...every time! After we left Ms. Cheryl's house, we began field day. All the kids divided into teams, made a team name, and a team cheer. My teams was the cobras. Clearly, we were the best haha. There was dizzy bat, frisbee, limbo, and other carnival like games. It was so fun and the kids got really into it! Time flies because way to soon it was time to say goodbye to our families and all the children and board the buses. Thanks goodness were coming back for a day in two weeks because I'm not sure I could handle the thought of never coming back to this place. When we got back to the hotel, a bunch of us decided to go back to the V & A Waterfront for dinner. And, when I say a bunch, I mean like thirty haha. We went to this steak house called Balthazars, which was delicious! It was voted best steak house in Cape Town. But, they also have game meat like wildebeest, springbok, ostrich, etc. Unfortunately, I was not feeling adventurous enough to try those, so I stuck with the fillet haha. And don't get me started on the wine list....Let's just say it came on a scroll... very extensive!!! The restaurant was right on the harbor and we got to sit outside. It was perfect! But, because there were so many of us, our nice dinner out turned into a FIVE HOUR affair haha. But it was so much fun! Once we got back from dinner...at midnight... we all went to the hotel bar to get some of their famous pudding (ie cake). SO YUMMY!! And, guess who was there?? Good ole Martin the tour guide haha. I had to leave the bar a little early though to go pack for Stellenbosch (the Athens of South Africa). SO EXCITED!!
Baby Courtney got her first kiss!!! Watch out!

Waterfront!!
